However, Turkish name for our location is “Beyoglu” and there are many speculations about the origins of the word. The most common known is while Emperor Kanuni Sultan Suleyman ruled Ottoman Empire Turks named this area as Beyoglu because Venice consulate Andre Gritti’s son Luigi Giritti resided in this area, and “Beyoglu” means a gentleman’s son.
